Too Close To Call? Samsung Galaxy S10+ vs Huawei P30 Pro

It’s official. Once an underdog, the Chinese giant Huawei have established a seat at the table with the big guns. The Huawei P30 Pro is a noble competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and proves they are here to stay. We compare, what are arguably, the best smartphones in the market right now. Let’s see who is sitting at the head of this table.

Design:

Almost identical in size, both smartphones have a beautiful prismatic reflective surface. The P30 Pro is harder to look away from, its surface reminiscent to the inside of an oyster shell. Almost plain white dead-on, a gorgeous nebula of colours when reflecting. The Samsung Galaxy S10+ has an option for a premium ceramic finish and the Huawei P30 Pro for a gradient surface. The rear cameras in the Galaxy S10+ are centrally housed in a minimally disruptive bezel, providing a smoother finish on a flat surface compared to the slightly wobbly P30 Pro. The S10+ front-facing camera is a punch-hole setup with screen around it while the P30 Pro has a slick dewdrop notch center screen. Two-steps ahead, Huawei has the option to mask the notch behind a blackened pixelated panel for a more seamless streaming experience.

Lens:

Huawei’s ascension in terms of hardware is remarkable. Their unmatched momentum in the market doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The P30 Pro has one distinct front-facing camera at a whopping 32mp while S10+ has kept it dual at 10mp & 8mp. Now this comes down to personal preference. While Samsung may have a lower resolution, the additional depth sensor allows for more realistic portraits with advanced edge technology and organic background blur. P30 Pro compromised slightly on realism. But with such a sharp picture, could we really complain? Huawei shot for the moon this time — claiming its cameras are powerful enough to literally take a shot of the moon with its 50x zoom. Something we all refutably try no matter how many pictures of white blobs we have in our gallery from past experience. P30 Pro has four lenses – zoom, low light, wide angle, and “time of flight” depth sensing. It also boasts the best night-mode available right now. S10+ has the trifecta of telephoto, standard, and wide. Samsung gives us a more natural shot with warmer tones in outdoor lighting, perfect for au naturale golden-hour shots. Huawei does put in work for processing and beautification in the final shot, making it more versatile and timesaving on post-production.

Configuration & Power:

The P30 Pro runs on 4,200 mAh battery while S10+ runs on 4,100 mAh. With 40W charging, Huawei remains market leading in terms of fast charging. They conceded with a lower resolution screen at 1080×2340. Samsung packs more pixels on a 2K panel at 1440×3040. Combined with the dual Dolby Atmos speakers, you might wants to lean towards the S10+ if you’re big on gaming or streaming from your smartphone. Samsung ditched the iris scanner with this model, upgrading their fingerprint scanner with an ultrasonic sensor. It reads your print in 3D, which is especially handy for those with greasy or clammy hands. Similarly, Huawei abandoned 3D facial recognition for a more suited fingerprint scanner.

Repair Cost for these new smartphones?

Repair costs for the Samsung Galaxy S10+ are their steepest rates yet. Whether it’s a cracked screen or faulty hardware, a broken S10+ can set you back anywhere between AED 1000 to AED 3000 for your Samsung Galaxy Repair. Investing in quality phone casing and a protective glass screen will go far with this model. These lofty prices could be attributed to the Infinity-O display and ultrasonic in-display scanner, which is built into the screen.

Repair costs for getting the Huawei P30 Pro fixed haven’t been made available yet, but stay tuned to our blog as we’re on top of it!

Overall:

Samsung Galaxy S10+ seems to be evidently outgunned in terms of hardware. Huawei P30 Pro remains flagship in terms of camera and battery but still lags behind the S10+ in terms of layout and software. One of the closest competitions we’ve seen, we’ll leave this one up to you to decide.
